Music Therapy and the power of the BeatSeat!!! Lara, I wanted to share a special session from today with you. I went to see a patient for a bedside session to find this patient crying out of frustration... but was receptive to engaging. I introduced the BeatSeat and facilitated an improvised music-making experience, first using just the instruments (me on guitar, patient on BeatSeat) and this transitioned into music-making with our voices. The patient's playing increased in volume, which I matched, and by the end we were both smiling. The session concluded with singing to Spongebob Songs and the patient was making jokes, joyful, and in much better spirits. When asking about the BeatSeat, she shared, "I like that it's loud and deep! Playing it loud was like... a relief. It felt good."
